About Gefle IF

Gefle Idrottsförening, also known simply as Gefle IF, are a Swedish professional association football based in Gävle. The club are affiliated to Gestriklands Fotbollförbund and play their home games at Strömvallen. The club colours are blue and white. Formed on 5 December 1882 as Gefle SK, the club have played eleven seasons in Sweden's highest football league Allsvenskan, the club's first season in the league was in 1933–34 Allsvenskan. The club are currently playing in Allsvenskan, where the season lasts from April to October.

History


The club's name is the old spelling of the town Gävle. Gefle IF and Brynäs IF Fotboll merged and played under the name Gefle IF/Brynäs between the 1979 and 1981 seasons, the merger being split up again in 1982.
