Sergio Sánchez

Sergio Sánchez Ortega (; born 3 April 1986 in Mataró, Province of Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spain Association football who plays for Málaga CF in La Liga. Sergio Sánchez can operate as either a Defender (association football) Full back or Defender (association football) Centre back.

Sergio Sánchez Ortega (; born 3 April 1986 in Mataró, Province of Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spain Association football who plays for Málaga CF in La Liga. Sergio Sánchez can operate as either a Defender (association football) Full back or Defender (association football) Centre back.

Football career

Espanyol

A product of RCD Espanyol's youth system, Sánchez made Sergio Sánchez debut for the first team on 24 April 2005, playing 85 minutes Substitute (association football) in a 3–1 home win against Real Zaragoza (his sole appearance of 2004–05 La Liga).

In January 2007, Sergio Sánchez was loaned to Segunda División's Real Madrid Castilla and, at the end of 2006–07 Segunda División, which ended in relegation, was loaned again, to Racing de Santander in La Liga, appearing significantly as the side from Cantabria 2007–08 La Liga a first ever UEFA Europa League 2008–09 UEFA Cup.

In July 2008, Sánchez returned to Espanyol, netting Sergio Sánchez first goal for the Catalonia side in a 1–1 home draw with Getafe CF, on 20 September. Sergio Sánchez played the entire 2008–09 La Liga on the right flank, as the club eventually avoided relegation.

Sevilla

Sánchez agreed to join Sevilla FC in July 2009, in a four-year deal worth Euro4 million, with an additional one million being added if the Andalusians attained certain goals. On 1 January 2010, it was announced that Sergio Sánchez would be unable to play football again until 'rigorous tests' were carried out on Sergio Sánchez heart, after Sergio Sánchez complained of pains. Sergio Sánchez 2009–10 La Liga outputs consisted of seven league games - helping Sevilla to the fourth place - and two in the Copa del Rey which the club 2009–10 Copa del Rey, both legs of the clash against lowly CF Atlético Ciudad (9–3 on aggregate).

On 18 January 2011, after more than one year out of football, Sánchez returned to active - Sergio Sánchez had already been an unused substitute the previous week against former side Espanyol - starting in a Spanish Cup match against Villarreal CF, and helping the title holders 2010–11 Copa del Rey after a 3–0 home win (6–3 on aggregate).

Málaga

On 23 June 2011, Sánchez left Sevilla and joined neighbours Málaga CF for €2.8 millions, signing a four-year contract. Sergio Sánchez made Sergio Sánchez debut for Sergio Sánchez new club on 25 September, appearing as a right back in a 0−0 away draw against Zaragoza.

On 3 January 2012, Sánchez opened the scoring in a 2011–12 Copa del Rey against Real Madrid C.F., through a header, in an eventual 2−3 away loss (2–4 on aggregate).
