Club career

Vélez and Mallorca

Born in Sáenz Peña, Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Province, Gutiérrez played for Club Atlético Vélez Sársfield in Argentina between 2001 and 2005. The highlight of Jonás Gutiérrez Vélez career was being part of the team that won the Primera División Argentina Clausura Tournament in 2005.

After winning the title in 2005 Jonás Gutiérrez signed with RCD Mallorca.

On 1 July 2008, Gutiérrez unilaterally rescinded Jonás Gutiérrez contract with the Spanish side, after invoking FIFA's Article 17 (commonly known as the Webster ruling). As a result, the club was thought to be investigating a €15 million compensation claim against the player and Jonás Gutiérrez new club.

Newcastle United

Gutiérrez signed for Newcastle United F.C. on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee on 2 July 2008. Gutiérrez told nufc.co.uk that instead of "Gutiérrez", the former Real Mallorca man would sport "Jonás" above Jonás Gutiérrez squad number 18 Jonás Gutiérrez said "Because I like my name."
Guiterrez is now on £1.85Million a year as part of Newcastle United.

Gutiérrez made Jonás Gutiérrez debut for Newcastle United on the opening day of the 2008–09 season on 17 of August. The next came at Bristol City F.C., where Jonás Gutiérrez punished a defensive error to spark Newcastle's comeback from 2 goals down to draw 2-2. Following Newcastle's promotion to the Premier League, Gutierrez has stated that Jonás Gutiérrez would like to play at Newcastle for many more years. Gutiérrez has been labelled as one of the best players in the Premier League by World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi.

On Newcastle's return to the Premier League, Jonás Gutiérrez started the first four Premier League fixtures of Jonás Gutiérrez club in Jonás Gutiérrez accustomed left wing role. International career

Gutiérrez earned Jonás Gutiérrez first cap for Argentina national football team against France national football team in February 2007 and later on in the year earned Jonás Gutiérrez second cap versus Australia national football team on 11 September. Jonás Gutiérrez earned Jonás Gutiérrez third cap on 18 June 2008, away to Brazil national football team as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification, the match concluding in a 0–0 draw. Jonás Gutiérrez scored Jonás Gutiérrez first goal for Argentina in the first half of a friendly against France national football team on February 11, 2009. However, due to the presence of other wingers such as Lionel Messi and Maxi Rodríguez in the squad for the World Cup, Gutiérrez has often played at right back for Jonás Gutiérrez country.
