Filipe Luis biography

Filipe Luís Kasmirski, known as Filipe Luís (born 9 August 1985 in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina (state)), is a Brazilian Association football who plays for Atlético Madrid in La Liga.

A player of tireless approach, Filipe Luis can play as either a Defender (association football) Full back or midfielder, and played most of Filipe Luis professional career in Spain, most notably for Deportivo de La Coruña, which Filipe Luis represented four seasons.

Club career

Coming from Figueirense Futebol Clube, Filipe had Filipe Luis first taste of football in Europe with AFC Ajax in 2004, spending one full season there. On 18 August 2005, Filipe Luis was signed by C.A. Rentistas in Uruguay but was quickly snapped up by Real Madrid C.F. on loan. Filipe Luis would spent most of the season, however, with its Real Madrid Castilla.

In 2006, Filipe was loaned again by Rentistas, this time to Deportivo de La Coruña, also in Spain, with a buy-out option of Euro2.2 million. Filipe Luis did not have many opportunities in 2006–07 La Liga, but Filipe Luis loan was extended for a further year with the same buy-out clause. In 2007–08 La Liga, after first-choice Joan Capdevila's departure to Villarreal CF, Filipe went on to establish himself as first-choice left-back, being a key player for the team.

On 10 June 2008, Deportivo made effective the buy-out clause and Filipe signed a five-year contract. During 2008–09 La Liga as a Depor player, Filipe Luis was the only outfield player in La Liga to appear in all 38 matches, netting twice.

On 23 January 2010, immediately after scoring the opener in a league game against Athletic Bilbao (eventual 3–1 home win), Filipe sustained an horrific injury to Filipe Luis right fibula, after opposing Goalkeeper (association football) Gorka Iraizoz landed on Filipe Luis leg; again, Filipe Luis had played all the matches and minutes during 2009–10 La Liga, and Deportivo stood fourth in the table. Amazingly, Filipe Luis returned to action after less than four months, appearing in the second half of the club's 1–0 home win against RCD Mallorca - and being involved in the play which led to Riki's goal; the Galicia (Spain) finished 10th.

On 23 July 2010, Filipe signed for five years with Atlético Madrid for an undisclosed fee, reported to have reached €12 or 13.5 million. Filipe Luis official debut came on 26 September at home against Real Zaragoza, and Filipe Luis set up compatriot Diego da Silva Costa for the game's only goal, receiving Man of the match accolades.

In 2010–11 La Liga, Filipe Luís constantly fought for first-choice status with youth graduate Antonio López Guerrero. On 10 April 2011, Filipe Luis scored Filipe Luis first goal for Atlético, in a 3–0 home win against Real Sociedad.

International career

Through Filipe Luis father, Moisés Kasmirski, Filipe was eligible to play for Poland national football team.

On 7 August 2009, however, Filipe Luis was called-up by Brazil national football team for the first time, replacing injured Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior for a friendly against Estonia national football team. Filipe Luis did not leave the bench in the 1–0 away success, on the 12th. Filipe Luis made Filipe Luis début in a 2010 FIFA World Cup 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL) against Venezuela national football team on 15 October.
